We have recently gotten Andrew a new AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) device. We have had one for over a year that is quite powerful in it's ability to communicate, but very limited in day to day functionality for a very active 5 year old. It is big and bulky and not very cool, obviously "different" and just flashes "there is something wrong with me" to the world. I recently heard about a new application for the ipod that is way more portable, accessible and extremely cool. It is called Proloquo2Go and is really making waves in the AAC world right now. So we went out and got one for Andrew two weeks ago now. We have been letting him play with the device, and uploading some pictures and an "ABC game" that he likes to play, which is teaching him how to write his letters and some early reading/spelling. It a very cool device. We decided to get this new device as we look at school next year. While Andrew is becoming more and more clear in his speech, it is still a huge struggle for him to communicate, especially in any kind of depth. We are hopeful that learning this new device will be a bridge for him as he becomes more and more intelligible. Check out this blog to get a little more info and see a video of another apraxic child as he begins to learn to use the device.

And here is a promotional video clip that explains the use of the device more.
We are excited to see how this will help expand my little dude's world.
